10 Ways to Create Customer Centric Promotions in Elastic Path Commerce Cloud - Consumers are always searching for the purchase with the best value, and as such, promotional offers play a significant role in a customer’s shopping cycle. According to the Retailmenot Survey: 80% of consumers feel more encouraged to make a purchase with a new brand if they have offers and discounts 74% of consumers say offers are a top factor when deciding where and what to buy 48% of consumers said they would avoid brands that did not provide offers. With such a heavy precedence on promotional offers, it is imperative to be equipped with a variety of promotions available within your eCommerce solution. At Elastic Path, our engineering teams understand this need and have continued to update and add new promotions for our customers to leverage. In this article we will highlight 10 ways we support your promotional needs and demonstrate where you can access them in the platform’s Commerce Manager. Cart-Level Promotions 1. Fixed Discount Promotions Cart-Level Fixed discounts allow your team to reduce the product price by a fixed amount, and is applied to the entire cart. This means you can offer a $10 reduction in price and have it applied to the cart total. 2. Percentage Discount Promotions Similarly to fixed discounts, Cart-Level Percentage discounts can also be applied to the entire cart. This promotion allows you to reduce the product price by a specific percentage such as 10% off. In addition to being able to add fixed and percentage discounts, our team has also made updates to allow for the exclusion of specific SKUs from each type of promotion. This means a seller will have the ability to run store-wide promotions and exclude one more SKUs. This can be of great use when you want to exclude specific tiered or exclusive products within your catalog. Item Level Promotions 3. X for Y Discount Promotions The X for Y discount allows your team to offer bulk discounts based on the unit price. This promotion works by applying the price of Y (qty) to the X(qty). This a great use for “2 For 1” promotions. 4. X for amount Discount Promotions Similarly to the X for Y discount, the X for amount discount allows your team to offer a bulk discount based on a fixed price. This promotion works by applying a set ($) amount to a specific (qty) amount for a specific SKU. This promotion can be used to deploy “2 phones for $500 sales.” 5. Bundle Discount Promotions Bundle discounts allow your team to offer bulk discounts when selected products are purchased together. This promotion works by selecting SKUs and quantities, and applying a bundled price to it. An example of this promotion could look like offering your customers to buy any two items from a specific list at a specific price of $100. 6. Item Fixed Discounts Item Fixed discounts allow your team to reduce the price of multiple items by a fixed amount. In addition to providing a price reduction, it also allows you to limit the discount to a discrete number of items. For example, you will be able to offer $5.00 off a specific SKU like a shirt, and at the same time only allow the discount to be applied to the first 3 items (of the same SKU), leaving the 4th item(of the same SKU) added to cart as full price. 7. Percentage Item Discounts Similarly to Item Fixed discounts, Percent Item Discounts allow your team to reduce the price of multiple items by a specific percentage amount such as 10%. Your team will still be able to limit the discount to a discrete number of items. 8. Free Gift Discount Free Gift discounts allow your teams to offer a free item when a specific product or a group of products are purchased. You will also have the option to either send your customers a notification for them to add the free gift to the cart rather than having it automatically added only. This feature is especially helpful by limiting unwanted items being sent to your customers and creating an overall better shopping experience. 9. Usage Per Line Item Discount Usage Per Line Item promotions grant your team the ability to set usage per line item for all promotion times. This allows you to limit the buyer to use the promotion for a specific number of times. This type of promotion can be useful in giving your employees or influencers a discount with a quantity limit which can be used throughout the year and at multiple checkouts. 10. Max Application Per Cart Limit This promotion update allows your team to limit the quantity available for purchase at the promotion price. This type of promotion stops the risk of someone purchasing an exuberant quantity of an item at sale price. As Elastic Path continues to innovate and make updates to our promotions engine, we will continue to keep you in the loop. Keep a lookout for upcoming promotions on the roadmap such as editable promotions, node category discounts, notification of available promos and more. In the meantime, stay up to date with our changelog and never get left behind on our newest innovations to Elastic Path Commerce Cloud.

How to Create Dynamic Product Bundles - At Elastic Path, we aim to empower product merchandisers to create innovative, product experiences that drive conversion and revenue. Forrester research shows that 10-30% of commerce revenue comes from upselling and cross-selling via product bundles. Studies also show that brands can reduce their return rates by simply calling one of the items in a bundle a “free gift.” Now more than ever, it’s critical for brands to leverage the revenue-generating power of product bundles. That’s why we’ve launched dynamic bundles within EP Product Experience Manager (PXM). What are Dynamic Product Bundles? Dynamic product bundles gives shoppers the freedom to choose their own options in a bundle. Traditional bundles restrict and confine customers to a prepacked group of products. For example, a video game brand might sell a bundle with a game console, 2 controllers and 2 pre-selected games. With dynamic bundles, shoppers are able to select 1 or more product options from a list of 10. That same video game brand could create a bundle where the shopper can select which of the games, if any, they want to choose. Or they could select 1 controller and both of the games. They would have the flexibility to choose their options. In today’s market, customer satisfaction is critical and providing customers with flexibility within their bundles will inherently increase that. Additionally, dynamic bundles boost your revenue and AOV organically as customers add additional items to their cart. They’re also a great tactic to enhance inventory management. If you’re looking for ways to get rid of excess stock, for example at the end of a season, you can create bundles that will help encourage customers to purchase those items. How to Create Dynamic Product Bundles with Elastic Path EP Product Experience Manager (PXM) Empower Your Merchandisers with Dynamic Product Bundling Go to EP PXM Let’s say you are a beauty brand selling cosmetics including hair, skin, and nail care. Your merchandisers have some excess inventory they would like to sell off before next season. To do this, they would like to create a dynamic bundle… To create a dynamic bundle in Commerce Manager, our business user tooling, a merchandiser would follow four simple steps. STEP ONE: Create Your Bundle Once in Commerce Manager, your merchant would head to EP PXM and click into the products tab to create a product and toggle on the bundle. STEP TWO: Configure Your Bundle Then you are able to configure your bundle. Here you can choose a minimum and/or maximum value for the number of products in a component that your shoppers can select. A component is equivalent to a category of products. For example, I want customers to select a minimum of 2 products from a list of 4. If you do not specify any minimum or maximum values for the product options in your components, shoppers can select any combination of product options. Also, choosing a minimum of 0 means that component product lists or that category of products are optional for your shoppers. STEP THREE: Add A Price Since we are looking to create a bundle promotion, we will add a SKU with the specific sale price for the bundle. The price will be auto calculated if no price is populated for the SKU. If a SKU is not on the bundle, the bundle price will be calculated by adding each product together. The bundled price for each option in the components will incentivize shoppers to purchase the entire bundle, getting rid of the inventory faster in this scenario. STEP FOUR: Add An Image Once you have set a price for the bundle, the last step before publishing is to add an image for what the bundle will look like on your frontend store. Go to the media management section of your “Create a New Bundle” tab. Then upload an image, click done and save and exit. STEP FIVE: Publish Your Bundle. Now that your bundle has been created, it’s time to publish it to your catalog so you can see it posted on your frontend store. Go back to your EP PXM section and select “Configurations.” Then select the product category or hierarchy you want the product to be featured in. For the beauty that will be featured in the “Women” category. Then choose the node or subcategories you want. For this example, that would be “beauty.” Then, you will add the product SKU into that node. Once the bundled SKU has been added you will go back to EP PXM and choose the Catalog tab. Choose the catalog in which these products belong. For the beauty brand example it would be the retail catalog. Once that is selected, you will click on the “Publish” button and the product catalog will be updated with this new bundle. Utilizing dynamic bundles as part of your promotion strategy is a wonderful way to move excess product and revenue. This bundling format will allow you to meet customers’ needs in this highly competitive market. How to Create Sale Pricing With Elastic Path Commerce Cloud? - Do you ever need the ability to set a sale price on products for events such as seasonal and clearance sales? As a catalog manager or merchandiser, you can easily override an original list price for a product, with a new sale price, without creating any new discounts, price books or catalog rules. In this article, you’ll learn more about pricing and how to set sales pricing in the Elastic Path Commerce Cloud business user tooling, Commerce Manager. What Is A Price Book? Before jumping into sales pricing, let’s first start by understanding how products and their corresponding pricing are managed. In Elastic Path Commerce Cloud, brands leverage price books to define prices in their catalog. A price book will contain a list of product SKUs and the prices you want to charge for those products. What’s great about price books in Elastic Path Commerce Cloud, is that it is completely decoupled from your catalogs. This means catalogs with the same hierarchies of products can be associated with different price books, making it quick and simple to create and manage catalogs for different customer segments (e.g. Loyalty status), business models (e.g. B2B vs B2C) and more. Additionally, if your store supports multiple locales, a price book can also contain product prices for each of the supported currencies. Here’s an example of a price book in Commerce Manager demonstrating pricing that supports both the United States and United Kingdom locales. Now that we have a basic understanding of price books in Elastic Path Commerce Cloud, let’s jump into Sales Pricing. How Do I Set Up Sale Pricing With Elastic Path? As previously mentioned, Sales Pricing is an advanced pricing option in Commerce Manager that allows you to override the original list price that was defined in your price book. Understanding the Different Types of Bundles in Elastic Path Commerce Cloud - Product bundles can be great for enhancing customer experience, speeding up inventory clearance, increasing revenue and average sales and much more. However, many brands oftentimes struggle with maintaining their bundle assortments, which ends up leading to a poor experience for customers and loss in revenue for the brand. Let’s take a look at an example of that happening. This brand has a membership bundle available. As you can see in the video, the usual annual membership costs $59. However, the bundle allows me to get my membership and a bundle of products at a discounted price. Therefore, when I click to add the bundle to my bag, you can see my cart loads with 4 items along with my discounted membership. However, you can also see that I can break the bundle and remove items from my cart, while still maintaining the sale price that was offered for the bundle. So at the end of the day, I can get my membership for $38, instead of the original $59, without even purchasing the full bundle. This is a major loss for brands because essentially, customers can game the system and get access to a sale price without spending more. Bundles with Elastic Path solves these problems. So today I will be talking about the two different types of bundles and how you can use them. Bundles With SKUs Assigned This type of bundle allows you to assign a SKU and a price to a subset of products. Therefore, this bundle may contain items which may or may not be available for purchase individually, and the price of the bundle will not be dependent on the individual price of the products in the bundle. For example, let’s say you run a computer hardware store and you want to sell a bundle which includes: A monitor which costs $200 A mouse which costs $40 A keyboard that costs $80 A 1 year subscription for Photoshop that is not sold individually So instead of an original calculated price of $320, you can assign all of your products under a single SKU, and set your price for that SKU for let’s say $280. Unlike traditional platforms that allow your bundles to break when shoppers try to remove items from their cart, Elastic Path ensures that all items must be included to get the benefit of the sale price. These types of bundles are especially used when: You don’t want the bundle to be auto calculated and priced at the value of the independent components You want to track inventory if you only have a set number of bundles available Interested in Learning More About Elastic Path Commerce Cloud Promotion Capabilities? eCommerce Promotions, when executed correctly, capitalize on the online consumer behavior, which helps you to continuously boost sales and customer loyalty despite the competition. Go to Promotions Bundles WITHOUT SKUs Assigned The second type of bundles are bundles without a SKU assigned. This type of bundle is based on the sum of each component's product pricing. Therefore, each product in the bundle already has an assigned SKU and price established in the catalog and therefore means they can be purchased separately. However, this bundle allows you to alter the price of each SKU and provide a “sales” price to provide a discount for customers. Therefore, in order to take advantage of the sale price, the customer has to meet all criteria of the bundle – In other words, they have to have all the required SKUs in their basket. So for example, let’s consider the same scenario before where you own your computer hardware store. Normally: A monitor costs $200 A mouse costs $40 A keyboard costs $80 But if a shopper adds all 3 to their cart, you can set your bundles rules to allow the customer to get the monitor for $180, the mouse for $30, and the keyboard for $70 for a total of $280. These types of bundles are especially used when you want to track product inventory individually and have the pricing be autocalculated. I hope this was helpful in better understanding the different types of bundles we have here at Elastic Path. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us.
